Thoughts, Insights and Suggestions of a Veteran of 57 years of Piano Teaching

Coming in June 2014 - a series of piano workshops on different topics in Boulder, CO  go to my website: and click on 'workshops' for details

Just look at that piano up in the corner! Seeing it makes my heart beat a little faster and my fingers start itching to touch it. You don't need to take it out of a case and tune it up before you start playing, nor bother with putting it back in its case when you're through for a time. It justs sits there waiting for you to do nothing but sit down on its bench and put your hands on its keys. Such a gift!

The paperback copy is now available (for $9.95) and here's the link:

I have had the good fortune to have been a piano teacher for many years. During that time, I have learned a lot about music in general, and the mechanics of playing the piano in particular. I have written, in a short concise way, of many of those things. I would hope you will find something of value here to use with your students, if you are a piano teacher, or just use in your own practicing, if you are fortunate enough to play the piano.

You may already be aware of some of the points covered, but you may also find some fresh, new ideas here.

There are several chapters in this book. They are all listed here. I have given you "Choosing your Next Piece" and "Now To Start Practicing" here on this site. Feel free to read them and download them if you like. They give you a glimpse of my writing style. If you like what you read in those two chapters,  then you may order "How to Practice the Piano" by clicking on the CreateSpace link above.

It is also available for your Kindle for $2.99 through Amazon. The link for that is:

There is one review on Amazon for this book, and it made me very happy to read it when it first appeared. Here is what Vesa R. had to say about it: "I have studied recently a large number of piano books that are available for Kindle, and in my view this is the best single treatment on piano practise. It is easy to read, all the fundamentals are covered succintly, and the price is competitive. I have applied the methods of this book in my own practise routine with good results. Highly recommended."
